Sarah Paulson is officially back for American Horror Story Season 13. She along with many cast members such as Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, and many more are returning to reprise many fan-favorite characters. Since Paulson is playing so many of her former on-screen alter egos again, she was recently asked to rank her characters from her favorite to least favorite.
For Paulson, the choice seemed easy. Lana Winters (Asylum), and Cordelia (Coven) were easily her favorite. She went on to reveal that Tuberculosis Karen (Double Feature), Sally (Hotel), Bette and Dot (FreakShow) come next in line. While she may have left a couple of characters out, she was clear that her Roanoke character was by far her least favorite.

“Roanoke‘s at the end. I know people get mad at me. I don’t care. Bite me. Bite me hard. I don’t give a s—. Sorry,” she bluntly stated. “I don’t like it. It’s not for me. I don’t give a s— about that season,” she told Entertainment Tonight while on the red carpet of the AHS: 13 premiere.
Many fans agreed with her sentiments, claiming that Roanoke was one of the worst seasons. However, others defended the season, revealing that is was one of the scariest, and most interesting of the series.
Fans Are Divided About Roanoke
“I actually loved Roanoke,” one person commented. “Scariest season,” said another. “I loved the documentary vibe,” a third person declared. “Roanoke is so meta. Is AMAZING, one of the best seasons,” a fourth person weighed in.
Throughout the years, Sarah Paulson has played several characters, including Billie Dean Howard, Ally Mayfair-Richards, and more. But only a handful will return for American Horror Story Season 13. According to Men’s Journal, it’s been confirmed that the actress will bring back at least five of her characters.
Fan-Favorite Characters Return For AHS: Season 13
Thankfully for Paulson, she won’t have to reprise her least favorite role of Audrey this time around. Cordelia Goode, Sally, Wilhelmina Venable (Apocalypse), Tuberculosis Karen and Mamie Eisenhower (Double Feature) will all be seen in the coming installment of the horror series.
Paulson’s harsh words about Roanoke may be echoed by some, but critics didn’t seem to agree. The season has a 74 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. However, fans gave it a much lower score, landing at just 57 percent.
Why Roanoke Was Different
Part of the divide may come from the way the season was structured. Roanoke was divided into two parts. The first played out like a dramatized documentary series, with actors portraying the stories of people who had a ghostly experience. The second part brough the actors and “real-life” people together to live in the haunted house and film what happened.
Some viewers absolutely loved the unique twist, and praised it for its originality. Others, like Sarah Paulson, didn’t love the formant and storyline.
