CBS Is Sleeping on Celebrity Big Brother While Dancing With the Stars and The Traitors Thrive

It's time for Celebrity Big Brother to return

Hot on the heels of Big Brother Season 28, where Rick Devens and company delivered one of the most talked-about seasons in years, fans want more. As longtime viewers know, the reality series has aired three seasons of Celebrity Big Brother during the winter months, and with the success of celebrity reality TV shows such as Dancing With the Stars and The Traitors, CBS is missing a huge opportunity to capitalize.

Why can’t Celebrity Big Brother be a yearly thing? It doesn’t even have to air on CBS. The show could live exclusively on the network’s streaming service, Paramount+, if there’s not room on the television schedule. We know that Survivor and the summer season of Big Brother are hits for the network, but the franchise isn’t giving fans everything they want.

Celebrity Big Brother Needs To Make A Comeback

In fact, Big Brother just wrapped up another successful summer. Season 28 delivered 14.8 billion minutes watched across CBS, Paramount+, and Pluto TV, up 9% from the previous summer, per CBS. With numbers like that, it’s hard to argue that there’s no audience for another installment of the franchise.

Many stars have proven that they’re more than happy to make the rounds on reality TV, heading to shows like The Traitors, The Masked Singer, and Dancing With the Stars. Fans can’t get enough of seeing these personalities compete, and by leaving Celebrity Big Brother shelved, a huge opportunity is being missed.

The Traitors and Dancing With The Stars Success Is Proof

CBS should take a page out of The Traitors’ book and bring Celebrity Big Brother back. The Peacock series is a huge hit and has already been renewed for more seasons. Meanwhile, Dancing With The Stars has been breaking voting records with it’s current Season 35 cast, per Yahoo.

In the past, the show has starred personalities such as Brandi Glanville, Shannon Elizabeth, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Mark McGrath, Omarosa, Metta World Peace, Tamar Braxton, Tom Green, Joey Lawrence, Ryan Lochte, Dina Lohan, Chris Kattan, Shanna Moakler, Lamar Odom, and many more.

The most recent season of Celebrity Big Brother aired in February 2022. In 2024, executive producers Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan opened up about the show’s absence to Entertainment Weekly. They revealed that they would welcome the series returning for an annual or biennial season, but it’s CBS that controls the scheduling decisions.

A Shortened Season and All-Star Alums Would Be Perfect

One of the show’s biggest problems seems to be the lengthy time commitment required to play the game. However, if Celebrity Big Brother were willing to shorten the season to four weeks or so, it would likely have more stars interested in playing. A shorter competition could make the experience more appealing to celebrities who aren’t able or willing to spend several months away from their regular lives.

It would also give CBS more flexibility when scheduling the show, while Paramount+ could benefit from having another original reality competition to keep subscribers entertained during the winter months. The network wouldn’t necessarily have to sacrifice a regular programming slot to make it happen.

Even former Big Brother alumni say they’d love to return for an all-star season if producers shortened the time period. A shortened winter season featuring all-stars could rotate with a celebrity version and leave fans satisfied until the main event in the summer. CBS could even alternate between the two formats, giving viewers something different to look forward to each year.

Dream Casting Celebrity Big Brother Season 4

Meanwhile, The Traitors has demonstrated just how entertaining it can be when celebrities and reality TV personalities are thrown together in a competition filled with alliances, deception, and unexpected friendships. Imagine Kris Jenner trying to orchestrate an alliance, Spencer Pratt stirring up trouble, and Lisa Rinna bringing her signature personality into the Big Brother house. There are plenty of famous faces who could make an entertaining season.

As for who fans would love to see cast in an upcoming season of Celebrity Big Brother, there are a lot of options. Some of the biggest names include Tori Spelling, Pete Davidson, Scott Disick, Martha Stewart, Maura Higgins, Mike Tyson, Snooki, Rob Kardashian, Ray J, Dax Shepard, and Lance Bass.

Candace Cameron Bure, Corey Feldman, Danielle Fishel, Dylan Efron, Jackson Olson, Whitney Leavitt, Jodi Sweetin, Donny Osmond, Rumer Willis, Ricki Lake, Sarah Palin, Lonzo Ball, Brian Austin Green, Caitlyn Jenner, and Melissa Joan Hart would also make good additions to a possible cast.

Will CBS Finally Bring The Show Back?

Big Brother fans have been waiting years for another celebrity edition of the popular CBS reality competition, and honestly, it’s time for the network to make it happen. The show has never established a consistent schedule, leaving viewers wondering when, or if, another group of famous faces will move into the house.

The fans seemingly want more, and they’ve been using social media to show it. “CBS needs to bring back Celebrity Big Brother ASAP,” one person wrote via X. “Let’s bring back Celebrity Big Brother now,” another agreed. “They just need to bring back Celebrity Big Brother with reality tv people,” a third person added.

CBS already has a successful reality TV franchise on its hands, and Peacock’s The Traitors has shown that audiences are eager to watch celebrities compete, scheme, and battle it out for a prize. Whether it airs on CBS or becomes a Paramount+ exclusive, Celebrity Big Brother deserves another shot. The network just needs to give fans what they’ve been asking for.
