Season 2 of Outlander: Blood of My Blood premiered on Friday, and fans were stunned to see what happened to the main characters. However, it was Henry’s storyline that hit particularly hard, and left viewers with their jaws dropped as they watched the heartbreaking plotline unfold.
In the Season 2 premiere of the Starz drama, titled “Remembrance Day,” fans learn that Henry and Julia, along with baby William, could not travel through the stones together. At the beginning of the episode, it’s clear that the three were unable to return to their time and seemed to be stuck in the 1700s. However, that quickly changed.
Henry Goes Back Through The Stones
After being attacked and fighting off the Grant’s men, Henry fell back through the stones accidentally, shocking Julia and leaving her and William behind. Julia had no choice but to continue with her lie that Henry had kidnapped her and the baby. Sadly, she returned to Lord Lovat’s home just as war was seemingly ready to break out.
Julia breaks down and tells Davina about her time traveling tale. She now has a friend she can confide in with Henry gone from her life yet again. However, she finds solace in the hope that Henry has reunited with their daughter, Claire.
Sadly, that isn’t the case. Henry wakes up to find himself in a psychiatric hospital in the year 1924. He begins to tell the staff that his wife and son are in danger, but they believe him to be mad. They even go as far as to use electric shock therapy in hopes of helping him.
The Psychiatric Hospital Storyline Is Heartbreaking
In a heartbreaking twist, the procedures don’t work. Instead, they make him forget about his daughter altogether. He can’t place her but he recognizes her birthday, Oct. 20, as something of significance in his life. He also knows that the letter “C” is important. He tells this to the reverend who comes to offer him council.
Of course, it’s none other than Reverend Wakefield. The very same man who raised Roger, and offered friendship to Claire and Frank when they arrived in Scotland. The reverend later tells his trusted housekeeper, Mrs. Graham, about the interaction and she shows up at the hospital to see Henry, revealing that she believes his time traveling story and that she thinks she can help him.
All the while, Henry looks like he’s wasting away in the hospital. His skin is pale, eyes are sunken, and he mutters to himself like a mad man. While all of the character are in peril, Henry’s story was the most heartbreaking of the premiere.
Brian and Ellen are Torn Apart Again
As for Brian and Ellen, they didn’t have long to spend together after running away from her wedding day to Malcolm Grant. The two, along with Murtagh, hid in the woods. However, once they saw the fires lit and the MacKenzie men in the woods, they knew they’d have to part again.
Brian went home to Lord Lovat to see if he was ordered to fight. Meanwhile, Ellen let the men take her back to her brothers, to find that Colum was furious and Dougal had married Malcolm’s sister.
