Melissa McCarthy is revealing her personal thoughts on JonBenet Ramsey’s death after playing her mother, Patsy Ramsey, in a new Netflix series.
In an interview with Variety, McCarthy admitted that portraying Patsy Ramsey on screen led her to come to her own theories about JonBenet’s murder. While the Ramsey family has fallen under the umbrella of suspicion for decades, the actress says she doesn’t believe they were involved in the young girl’s Colorado death.

“My heart says no one in the family could have done that,” McCarthy said, revealing that’s her own “personal feeling.”
“I don’t have the ability, or probably the right, to say that, but that’s what my gut says. Which I probably am not supposed to say,” she added.
The limited series, titled The Murder of JonBenet Ramsey, also stars Clive Owen as Patsy’s husband, John Ramsey. However, McCarthy tells fans not to expect a solved case when it’s all said and done. Instead, the Netflix project will do a dive into JonBenet’s death and all of the theories surrounding it.
Netflix Series Will Dive Into The Different Theories
“We do show all these different theories. They were all real working theories. Showing the chaos of it is something that we’ve not seen,” McCarthy revealed. “It’s a new telling of it, because you’re like, ‘My God, is this really what was happening?'”
JonBenet was killed on the day after Christmas in 1996. She was found unresponsive in the basement of her parent’s Boulder, Colorado home. DNA evidence was also found with her body. However, the case continues to be unsolved nearly 30 years later. Following her death, her entire family, including both parents and older brother, Burke, have all come under suspicion.

Pasty Ramsey died from ovarian cancer in 2006, per PEOPLE. John Ramsey, now 82, still advocates for his daughter’s murder to be solved and hopes that the DNA evidence will eventually lead to answers. “I believe it will be solved,” he previously stated. Burke Ramsey reportedly works as a software engineer and lives a quiet, private life. JonBenet’s older half-brother, Andrew Ramsey also continues to ask for his sister’s case not to be forgotten.
While Melissa McCarthy can’t speak to her on-screen alter ego, Patsy, she says she would like to speak to other members of JonBenet’s family.
Other members of the Netflix cast include Garrett Hedlund as Detective Steve Thomas, Emily Mitchell as JonBenet, and Angus Caldwell as Burke Ramsey. Alison Pill, Shea Whigham, Clifton Collins Jr., Chris Bauer, and Rory Cochrane round out the cast.
The Murder of JonBenét Ramsey premieres Dec. 10 on Netflix.
